Golfer Ranveer Singh Saini Bags Gold in Special Olympics World Games
Autistic golfer Ranveer Singh Saini becomes the first Indian to bag gold at the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles.
Ranveer Singh Saini created history by becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal at the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles. The 14-year-old autistic golfer achieved the feat in GF Golf-Level 2 Alternate Shot Team Play event on Friday. (Click here for latest Sports stories)
Ranveer and his partner Monica Jajoo were nine shots clear of joint second-placed teams from Hong Kong (Tsz Leung Chung/Ka Kit Lam) and Nippon (Takefumi Hiyoshi/Tadatoshi Sakai). In all, 21 nations participated.
An elated Ranveer's father "thanked" NDTV for pioneering the entire media towards his son and also appealed to all the parents of special children not to "give up."
"To all parents of special children, just don't give up, special children are self-sustaining," Ranveer's father to NDTV.
"Ranveer was most excited to meet US First Lady Michelle Obama during the Games," he added.
This isn't Ranveer's first big achievement. Two years ago he became the first Indian golfer to win two gold medals at the Asia Pacific World Games.
Ranveer was diagnosed with autism when he was less than two years old. He's also a keen cook, pianist and loves calculating dates and numbers. But it's golf that's given the 14-year-old a unique identity and his achievements have even included him in the Limca Book of Records.
