The three-highest ODI scorers are all Indians. Rohit Sharma on Thursday took the lead in an exclusive club of batsmen with 200-plus scores with a phenomenal 264 against Sri Lanka in the fourth ODI, which India won by 153 runs. Surpassing his own 209, the Mumbaikar said that he wants to enjoy his feat before thinking about the next batting milestone. (Full match report | Scorecard | Match Highlights)
Making his comeback after an injury lay-off, Rohit began on a watchful note but once he reached his fifty, switched to top gear. In fact, his journey from 50 to 250 took him only 94 balls. "I wanted to bat through the course of the 50 overs and I am glad I was able to do that," he said at the post-match conference. "For now, I will enjoy the 264. Any other milestone including 300 can wait." (Rohit's knock in pics)
Elaborating on what his strategy was, the 27-year-old said that he was determined to score big. "I am coming back after a two-month break, so was not tired at any part of the innings," he said. "The strategy was to go from 100 to 150 to 200 and 250. Eden is a good track to do that." (When Dhoni predicted Rohit's record)
Dropped on four and twice again after completing 200 runs, Rohit did benefit from shoddy fielding and ordinary bowling. Eden though helped him make the most of the lifelines. "I made my Ranji Trophy debut here. I got a hundred on my Test debut, I scored an Indian Premier League hundred here as well," Rohit said after his thunderous knock.
