Ferrari did not allow the flag controversy to affect their game as Fernando Alonso came in third narrowly missing out on the two Red Bull drivers in the front.
Michael Schumacher could not get into the top ten as he ended up in thirteenth place however Nico Rosberg took the fourth spot to give Mercedes something to write home about.
Kimi Raikkonen gave Team Lotus cause to be satisfied coming in fifth in the practice session which would be a confidence booster going into the qualifiers on Saturday.
Lewis Hamilton came in sixth and it was the best performance by McLaren in the practice session.
Jenson Button did not have a good outing by his standards and finished off seventh in the standings.
Force India had a decent outing as Nico Hulkenberg and Paul di Resta finished eighth and eleventh respectively.
Narain Karthikeyan had a forgettable time in the practice session and it does not help his cause in the final race.
