Just as Germany is gearing up for the World Cup next month, Bangalore is getting ready for its own football fever in October. The under 20 Asian Youth Championship will be hosted by India for the first time in Bangalore and Kolkata. Typical to Japanese efficiency its youth team in the garden city for an advance training session. In all, 16 teams will participate in this year's Asian Youth Championship. "The weather in India is hotter than in Japan but we are getting ourselves used to it," says Mike, a member of the Japan squad. The Japanese team is known for its high standard of professionalism. Many of their players are from the world renowned J League, which makes them one of the favourites for the championship. However, the process of renovating stadiums for the tournament is far from over. Officials, though, strike a positive note. "We have enough time and will renovate the stadiums," said A R Khaleel, Secretary, Karnataka Football Association. The first round of 14 matches will be played in Bangalore. The teams will then move to Kolkata for the second round of 14 matches.
