Delhi Daredevils were condemned to their fourth successive defeat as Sunrisers Hyderabad completed a narrow 3-wicket win over the home side in the 14th match of the Indian Premier League 2013 here at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. (BCCI Image)
Sunrisers made heavy weather of a lowly total of 114 set by the Delhi Daredevils but eventually scraped through as Amit Mishra (16 off 14 balls) and Dale Steyn (9 off 5 balls) held fort at the fag end. Kumar Sangakkara being the top-scorer at 28, highlights the woes of Hyderabad batting. (BCCI Image)
Virender Sehwag's return could not bolster Delhi Daredevils who managed just 114/8 in their 20 overs against the strong bowling line-up of Sunrisers Hyderabad. (BCCI Image)
Hyderabad continued to pour misery on the struggling Delhi side with Dale Steyn accounting for possibly the home side's best batsman, David Warner, for a duck. The South African's ball swung in just a bit and his Warner's inside half of the bat to lob a simple catch to Anand Rajan at mid-on. (BCCI Image)
Skipper Mahela Jayawardena and Sehwag then joined hands and looked effective for sometime - Ishant Sharma's first over went for 12 and Thisara Perera, who replaced Ishant, went for 9 in his first. (BCCI Image)
The Delhi dug-out had much the same expression as in the image for all of their batting innings. (BCCI Image)
Disaster then struck as Ishant was introduced from the other end by Kumar Sangakkara. It proved to be a masterstroke as the lanky Indian pacer removed Jayawardena and Sehwag off successive deliveries. Mahela went trying to up the ante and skied one to mid-on. He scored 12 off 14 balls.
Sehwag could not control a wide delivery from Sharma and was pouched at wide slip by Cameron White. (BCCI Image)
The top-scorer for Delhi was Kedar Jadhav with 30 runs off 20 balls and his hits across the fence gave Delhi something to cheer. (BCCI Image)
Dale Steyn bowled the most economical spell of IPL 2013 taking 2/11 in his 4 overs. Ishant went for a few but took 2/35 in his 4 while Thisara Perera took 2/31. (BCCI Image)
Sunrisers too did not have the brightest of starts while batting as Shahbaz Nadeem decided to suddenly 'grow wings' to run-out Akshath Reddy for a solitary run off 8 balls. Nadeem also took 2/17 removing Parthiv Patel and Cameron White. (BCCI Image)
Patel and Sangakkara continued in their run-a-ball mode (after the early wicket) for a few overs till the former tried to chip one and closed the face of his bat too early off Nadeem to return a simple catch to the bowler. (BCCI Image)
Eight runs later, Sangakkara too departed trying to cut one close to his body off Johan Botha. Sehwag completed a brilliant catch at slip. He scored 28 off 28 balls. (BCCI Image)
Delhi then made a roaring comeback into the game as hot property Nadeem removed the dangerous Cameron White for 4. The Australian charged too soon and the left-armer's shortish delivery had him stumped by Kedar Jadhav. Morkel also accounted for Ashish Reddy, uprooting his stumps off a slower ball. Reddy scored an enterprising 16 off 9 balls.(BCCI Image)
Dale Steyn, who had bowled the most economical spell of IPL 2013 taking 2/11 in his 4 overs, then joined Amit Mishra as the pair took the visiting side home despite Delhi fighting hard. (BCCI Image)
