Kane Williamson uses the depth of the crease, leans back, and tries to execute the square cut off the back foot with an angled bat. But the ball gets a bit heavy on the right-hander as he goes through the shot. It goes flat off the higher part of the bat and straight towards Zak Crawley stationed at backward point. Carse steams in from over the stumps and bowls a pinpoint yorker on the stumps, William O'Rourke the tall man bends low and tries to jam his bat in the way, but gets beaten by the pace and the ball beats the edge of his bat before shattering the off and middle stumps. Something was brewing up as Crawley just couldn't find the connection off the bat. Matt Henry strikes early and gets that breakthrough for his side. Matt Henry charges in from over the wickets and bowls with a wobbled seam position. Lands it full and angles into the batter off the deck as it jags back in a touch. It is that nip-backer that comes into the batter sharply off the deck with a bit of bounce on it. If you stand at a position like gully, you know how quickly the ball comes and Phillips is tailor-made for such catches, but he has pulled off something really extraordinary here. He is pumped and so are the Kiwis. Just what New Zealand needed. Tim Southee bowls it outside off, and bangs it on the surface on a good length, it skids through and comes off quickly onto the bat. Ollie Pope is hurried into the shot and slashes it with an angled bat but fails to keep it down and ends up hitting it flat towards the right of the gully fielder. Glenn Phillips shows remarkable reflexes as he dives in the air and stretches his right hand out and just plucks it out of thin air. Takes an absolute stunner of a one-handed catch and also maintains the ball in his hand while tumbling over. Ollie Pope is standing stunned in his crease and England lose half of their side now on 222. Bashir is nowhere near getting the connection right, but he goes through for a wild hoick across the line to take the aerial route. Ends up getting a top-edge that swirls the ball up in the air. It hangs up in the mid-wicket region for quite a bit. Tim Southee backtracks it and holds onto it and takes a sensational sliding catch. England finish at 499, with a lead of 151 runs.  499/10

It angles in and just straightens off the deck and brings the outside edge into play. Tom Latham is squared up a bit as he looks to block it in front but gets a thick outside edge. The ball carries towards the second slip where Harry Brook takes a good catch bending low. Brook cannot do anything wrong in this match and just manages to keep his fingers under the ball. 8.5 OUT! TAKEN! Gus Atkinson takes a blinder and Devon Conway cannot believe his luck. Hits the hard length does Carse, on off, Devon Conway stands tall and shapes up to pull it but does not get a good piece of wood on it. The ball carries flat and low towards mid on where Gus Atkinson dives low to his left and takes a stunning catch even as the ball dips on him. However, the on-field umpires send it upstairs and the TV umpire, Adrain Holdstock is summoned to check for a fair catch. After several angles, it is deemed that Atkinson just about managed to keep his fingers underneath the ball. Devon Conway departs on 8 (26) and now, both the openers are in the dugout.
