In his first Working Committee meeting as BCCI president, Shashank Manohar will have to deal with several critical issues confronting the Board for over two years now. After the news of 2013 Indian Premier League betting and match-fixing scandal broke, the biggest challenge the BCCI is facing is the issue of Board members wearing multiple hats and having commercial interest in lucrative tournament.
In Sunday's Working Committee meeting in Mumbai, the issue of conflict of interest will be hotly discussed and the first steps towards modifying the Board constitution could be taken.
In focus will be former Board president N. Srinivasan, who as the Managing Director of India Cements was in the eye of betting scandal after his Chennai Super Kings were investigated for the betting scam.
The Supreme Court has also appointed a committee under former Chief Justice of India RM Lodha to suggest changes in the BCCI constitution. The conflict of interest clause, that allowed Srinivasan and his family members to own Chennai Super Kings, is in the spotlight. Srinivasan will not attend Sunday's meeting.
Among other things, the BCCI WC meeting will also discuss Pepsi's pullout from IPL, the future of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals and the fate of the scheduled India-Pakistan series in December.
