76.2 OUT! TIMBER TIME! A rare misjudgement by Devdutt Padikkal and he sees his stumps broken. Keshara peppers the fuller length, at a flatter trajectory and at a quicker pace. Devdutt Padikkal, instead of coming onto his front foot, rocks back and looks to keep it out. The ball spins just enough away from the batter to beat his outside edge and hit the off pole. Devdutt Padikkal departs on quality 117. India are 281/4.  281/4

51.5 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! The 120-run partnership comes to an end. At long last, Sri Lanka have their breakthrough, and it is Asitha's pace that does the job. He holds his line just outside off and shapes the ball away a touch. Shubman Gill flirts with the wide delivery, reaching to access the off side, and edges it through to the keeper. Niroshan Dickwella very nearly spills it though, moving across to his right, but the ball pops out of his gloves initially, and he dives well and redeems himself, completing the catch at the second attempt. Gill, who had barely put a hair out of place all innings, walks back after a fine knock, and India move to 186/3.  186/3

112.1 OUT! CAUGHT! Oh, what a start for Sri Lanka right after the break, and that's a bit of a brain-fade moment from Rishabh Pant. Keshara Nuwantha tosses the ball up around off, and Pant immediately dances down the track, looking to attack the bowler. He hammers it over mid off, but hits it flat and straight to the fielder in between mid off and long off. Lahiru Udara takes a very sharp catch and the hosts have got the big fish. Asitha comes around the stumps, lands it around that nagging length on off, shaping it sharply back into the batter. Ravindra Jadeja presses to the line of the ball and offers a leave, trusting the bounce. An error in judgement and the ball goes on and clips the top of off to remove the bails. Saransh Jain gets up on his toes and looks for a flick but gets squared up and is cramped up for room. He gets a leading this and the ball pops towards the left of Kamil Mishara at gully. Kamil takes a couple of steps towards the ball and dives acrobatically at the end to grab this one. India are 307/6.  307/6

124.4 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! At long last, a wicket for Prabath Jayasuriya as he breaks the 39-run partnership. Prabath bowls it on a length, outside the off stump line. Manav Suthar goes deep inside the crease and tries to block. He is expecting for the ball to turn in but it keeps going straight with the arm, and a faint outside edge is found. Niroshan Dickwella takes a fine catch behind the stumps. India are 458/8 as a decent hand from Suthar comes to an end.  458/8

136.1 OUT! LBW! Siraj falls in an attempt to break free. Wicket number 2 for Prabath Jayasuriya. He drifts the ball in from around the stumps, landing it in thereabouts of fuller length. Mohammed Siraj moves a bit across to hammer it with a pull shot, but plays all over it as the ball skids through and hits the back pad. The Sri Lankans appeal as one and up goes the finger instantly. But Siraj reviews it straightaway and starts walking off even before the verdict is passed on. UltraEdge shows three reds and he continues his march back to the pavilion. India are 489/9.  489/9

1.2 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! The Lankan batters have a chat with the umpire regarding the light, and the very next ball, Lahiru Udara falls. Prasidh Krishna hammers it on a good length, on middle and gets it to just straighten a bit. Udara looks to nudge it leg side but gets squared up and the ball finds the outside edge. Yashasvi Jaiswal at third slip, springs across and snaffles it brilliantly with both hands. Sri Lanka are 1/1, trailing by 502 runs.  1/1

9.3 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! The change of angle eventually works for Prasidh Krishna. There was a noticeable improvement in his line and length ever since he switched to around the wicket, and now he has his reward. At 142 kph, Krishna bangs it in short, angled into the left-hander. Mishara was better off dropping his wrists and letting the ball go through, just as he did on the previous ball, but this time he gets on his toes and gets his hands high to fend it down. The ball climbs onto him to brush the glove, and it floats behind to the keeper, Dhruv Jurel, who takes a safe catch to his left. Sri Lanka are 35/3, trailing by 468 runs and needing 269 more runs to avoid the follow-on.  35/3

3 OUT! LBW! An even bigger appeal this time, and eventually, the umpire's finger goes up. Manav Suthar darts this one in very full and around middle, angling it in. Prabath Jayasuriya is completely taken aback as he looks to block, but the ball might have hit the front boot before Jayasuriya managed to defend it with the bat. Jayasuriya does take the review, and UltraEdge shows that it did flick the boot first, and Ball Tracking shows the wickets as umpire's call. Jayasuriya isn't happy but has to walk back, and Sri Lanka are 8/2.  8/2

45 OUT! BOWLED! That's a very unfortunate way to go for Pasindu. A wicket for Jadeja upon his return into the attack and he is delighted to the core. Keeps it simple, stump-to-stump, with a bit of in-drift on a fuller length. Pasindu Sooriyabandara neither goes back nor comes in front. Hangs somewhere in between and tries to dab the ball to the off side, but gets an inside edge onto the back thigh. And unluckily for him, the ball then just rolls back into the stumps. Hands on head for Dinusha, and that sums up the weight of this wicket. Sri Lanka are 171/6, trailing by another 332 runs, and needing 133 more to avoid the follow-on.  171/6

30 OUT! CAUGHT BY JADEJA! Number 3 for Prasidh as he breaks an impressive 87-run partnership. After peppering a lot of full balls, Krishna bashes the length hard this time around, from an around-the-wicket-angle. It kicks up through the deck and arrives a lot quicker than Kamindu expects. He is hurried on the pull shot but gets it high on the bat, and miscues it badly towards mid-wicket, offering a straightforward catch to Ravindra Jadeja stationed there. Sri Lanka are 122/4, needing 182 more to avoid the follow-on.  122/4

34.5 OUT! CAUGHT AT FIRST SLIP! Suthar provides a massive early wicket for India in the second session. Excellently bowled, this. Landed on a length outside off, drifting in through the air, only to grip and rip away sharply off the surface. Dhananjaya de Silva leans half-forward to defend, but the extra turn is enough to catch the edge on its way through. The ball seems to have brushed Jurel's glove, but KL Rahul is alert enough to pouch it in the second attempt to his right. Sri Lanka are 137/5, trailing by 366 runs. They still need 167 runs to avoid the follow-on.  137/5

89.4 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Saransh Jain ends up with a couple of wickets to his name, and Sri Lanka fail to avoid the follow-on. A lovely bit of flight on this one, bowling it in and around off and getting it to turn away. Sonal Dinusha lunges forward and looks to defend but doesn't quite get to the pitch and the outside edge is found. KL Rahul at slip takes an easy catch and Dinusha perishes after a monumental effort. Sri Lanka are bowled out for 290.  290/10

45.3 OUT! STRANGLED DOWN THE LEG SIDE! Troubles cut deeper for Sri Lanka now. That was a nothing shot from Dickwella, to be very fair. Siraj hits the hard length, on the leg stump line. Niroshan Dickwella hops inside the line of the ball to tickle it behind on the leg side, but only manages a faint inside edge back to the keeper. The ball dips in front of Dhruv Jurel but dives in front, stretches his hands forward to scoop the ball inches above the ground. A polite appeal is all that is needed for Ahsan Raza to raise his finger. Dickwella, hugely gutted, trudges off on a duck. Sri Lanka slip down from 171/5 to 173/7 in a span of a couple of minutes. They still trail by 330 runs and need 131 runs to prevent the follow-on.  173/7

68.2 OUT! CAUGHT! Manav Suthar breaks through. He offers flight, on middle. Nuwantha dances down the track and with mid off up, he looks to go over that man. Ends up getting too close to the ball and as a result, he does not get the desired elevation. Hits it flat and it goes straight to Saransh Jain at mid off, who gobbles it up around his midriff.  230/8

86.5 OUT! CAUGHT! There it is, a maiden Test wicket for Saransh Jain, and Lahiru Kumara will be livid with himself after fighting for so long and getting out like that. Jain tosses this one up on middle and leg, getting it to grip and turn. Kumara takes the front leg out and looks to hit against the spin but ends up skewing it off the outer half of the blade. Dhruv Jurel at cover-point dives to his right and pouches it just inches above the ground. Sri Lanka still need 16 runs to avoid the follow-on, and they have just one wicket left now.  288/9

3.3 OUT! TAKEN! Sri Lanka's opening woes continue. Lahiru Udara falls cheaply. Siraj bends his back and digs it in short, getting it up around the right shoulder. Udara presses back to take the short ball on, but it climbs onto him. He swings across for the pull but takes his eyes off the ball while doing so. He picks out Saransh Jain at deep backward square leg. Jain is in off the ropes, and he takes the catch at waist height. Sri Lanka are 5/1, trailing by 208 runs.  5/1

14.5 OUT! LBW! A prolonged appeal and the finger is raised. Kamil Mishara reviews it almost immediately. Where was the impact? From over the wicket, on a length, darted in at the off stump. Mishara plants his front foot across and attempts the sweep, but the ball sneaks under the blade to ping him on the knee roll of the front pad. The UltraEdge confirms that there is no bat or glove involved. It seems to have hit him in line, but is it doing too much? The impact is fine, and the Ball Tracking has the ball clipping the top of the leg stump. It is umpire's call, and the on-field call is upheld. End of an enterprising 58-run stand. Sri Lanka are 63/2 in their second dig, trailing by 150 runs.  63/2

60.3 OUT! STUMPED! Oh, my! That is a brain fade moment from someone who has been so much in control so far and Pasindu Sooriyabandara has only himself to blame. Sooriyabandara is a bit early to come down the track and Manav Suthar sees him coming. Suthar fires it full and wide outside off and Sooriyabandara is well beaten. Rishabh Pant reaches to collect the ball and whips off the bails. Sooriyabandara departs in the 90s and that could be a huge wicket in the context of the game. Also, before this ball, Rishabh Pant was heard on the stump mic alerting the mid-on fielder as he sensed a big shot coming. Pasindu did give the charge for that but got outsmarted by the bowler.  212/5

43.1 OUT! CAUGHT! A fine catch by Shubman Gill and the short ball ploy finally works for India. Krishna digs it in short, around the left shoulder and gets it high enough to trouble the batter. Mendis presses back for the pull but is rushed, and the ball gets big on him. It is skied behind square leg off the splice of the blade. Gill runs over his left shoulder, keeps his eyes on the ball and stretches his hands out in front to take the catch. He lands hard on the ground but ensures that he keeps hold of the ball. 58.5 OUT! CAUGHT! A bit unlucky that, and Dhananjaya de Silva is dumbfounded. Manav Suthar pulls the length back, bowling it flatter on off. De Silva presses back to work it on the leg side but does so against the turn. The ball holds its line and catches the inside edge, going on to hit the back leg and then lobs up in front of gully. Devdutt Padikkal lunges to take the catch and another brewing partnership is broken. Suthar has been expensive but gets a crucial wicket, as Sri Lanka still trail by 4 more runs.  209/4

64.2 OUT! LBW! This looks pretty straight and it has been given by the umpire. Niroshan Dickwella has reviewed it, though. It is the arm ball by Jain from around the wicket, full and landing around off. Dickwella gets half-forward to defend but the ball comes in with the arm to go past the inside edge and he gets hit low on the front pad. After pinging the front pad, the ball made contact with the inside edge, and perhaps that made Niroshan feel that he had gotten an inside edge. There is daylight between the bat and the ball and there is no need for UltraEdge, says the third umpire. Three reds on Ball Tracking with the ball crashing into the leg stump. Saransh Jain strikes on his return to the attack. Sri Lanka are now 218/6, leading by 5 runs.  218/6

This is angled in on a good length around middle. Nuwantha lunges forward and brings his bat out in front, but he can't get to the pitch of the ball. It straightens off the deck with bounce and takes the shoulder of the blade. The ball lobs towards gully, where Dhruv Jurel gobbles it up. End of a 112-run stand. 116.3 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Prabath Jayasuriya just couldn't resist and fell into the trap. Fizzed through on a fuller length, around the off stump. Prabath Jayasuriya is lured on the front foot and tries to hammer it through cover, but only manages a thick outside edge as the ball turns sharply. Dhruv Jurel has very little time to react, but grabs a fine catch at gully, to his left. Dinusha, at the other end, drops his gloves in frustration as Sri Lanka are 355/8, leading by 142 runs.  355/8
