New Delhi:

If the three-dimentional gaming has caught on with every sport, why should golf be any different? Golf simulators claim to give golfers a next to real experience and even transport you to the golfing location of your choice with up to 50 virtual courses to choose from. The simulator is growing in popularity across the globe from clubs, courses to even universities, cruiseliners and various leisure facilities. "Corporates can also have it in their offices as a recreational thing, and it could be at pubs also," said Jasjit Singh, head coach, Delhi Golf Club. The machine combines the very best in ball tracking systems, image projection and infra-red sensors to give players an almost accurate simulation of a golf game. But all that comes at a price with a single simulator costing more than 30 lakh rupees. But the gizmo has failed to attract the attention of pros and some enthusiasts. "I don't believe in playing artificial golf. I like to play golf the way it is meant to be. I don't even like playing golf under floodlights because you're meant to play golf walking and during the day and that's the way I like it," said professional golfer Gaurav Ghei. Another golf enthusiast, Ashok Rozario said, "The problem with the simulator is that you'd have to give an add on. In and around London, it's normally near pubs or adjoining pubs so people come and have a bitter or a pint or something. Here, I think a nimbupani would not be much of an inducement." So while the diehard golfers don't care about the simulator, for the others it's a great way to get close to the real experience.
