Inn Break
Signing off from a classic - That brings us to the end of an entertaining contest where Mumbai Indians put a dent in Punjab Kings' playoff hopes with a dramatic win. Next up in IPL 2026, we have a clash between Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings on 15th May, Friday. The game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but you can join us early for all the build-up. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
The victorious skipper of Mumbai Indians - Jasprit Bumrah says that it was a good game of cricket and they pulled back well. They fumbled with some catches, but overall it was a great game. He adds that the wicket was a bit on the drier side, and it was not as cold as it was earlier, but they were clear about what they had to do. Bumrah reckons that the plan was to hit right lengths and their bowlers did the job well. He further says that Shardul and Tilak deserve equal credit, and Tilak held onto his nerves well. He ends by saying that he had a great time here and he enjoyed it a lot.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Tilak Varma wins the award for his match-winning 75* off 33. He says that he loves finishing the games and playing at the international level has helped him finish off games better. Adds that they didn't expect a wicket like this as the ball stay a bit low and slow and even Punjab struggled at the start with the bat. Mentions that they wanted to take the game deep and is glad that he could stay till the end and get his team over the line. Tilak further mentions that he told his coach in the final strategic break that they needed one big over and they got it. On Jacks' knock, Varma says that it was a good one as he held his shape well and was able to put the slower balls away, which was difficult to do on this track.
Presentation Time...
A quick chat - MI's Will Jacks says that he's feeling better with that victory, as the season hasn't gone their way, but they will look to end on a high. On batting with Tilak Varma, he says that the conversation was about the long boundary on one side and they knew that the opposition would try to defend one side. Jacks says that it wasn't about pace off but rather bowling back of a length as the ball skid through and that's what the opposition tried to do as well.
The captain of Punjab Kings - Shreyas Iyer says that it's a tough pill to swallow, but he doesn't want to point it out to an individual. He says that Tilak Varma's knock was excellent. He adds that Azmatullah Omarzai also gave a commendable performance with the bat towards the end and got momentum on their side. Iyer reckons that they are excited for their next game and ends by saying that they have to win both of their next matches.
PBKS let it slip again - Punjab Kings just cannot find a way to get over the line. Arshdeep Singh was superb in the Powerplay, conceding just 8 runs in his two overs, before Yuzvendra Chahal turned the game around in the middle overs by removing Rohit Sharma and giving away only 12 runs in his first three overs. However, a slight miscalculation from Shreyas Iyer proved costly as Chahal was held back for the 16th over, where he was smashed for 20 runs to swing the momentum again. Azmatullah Omarzai responded brilliantly with a two-run over and a wicket, finishing with two scalps to pull things back in PBKS' favour. But Marco Jansen's tough season continued as he leaked 22 runs with 50 needed off 18, while Arshdeep also struggled at the death. In the end, Bartlett could not defend 14 in the final over as Punjab Kings fell short once again.
Punjab recovered strongly to reach 200 - Earlier in the game, Punjab Kings looked set for a huge score after racing to 100 in 11 overs, with Prabhsimran Singh striking a fine half-century, but Mumbai Indians stormed back brilliantly to reduce them from 107/1 to 140/7. Shardul Thakur led the fightback with a superb four-fer, while Deepak Chahar picked up two wickets, with Raj Bawa and Bosch chipping in as well. Just when MI seemed to have gained complete control, Azmatullah Omarzai turned the momentum again with a blazing 38 off 17, while Bartlett and Vishnu Vinod provided the finishing touches as PBKS smashed 53 runs in the final three overs to reach the 200-run mark, leaving Mumbai disappointed with how they let things slip at the death.
Tilak powers MI home - Mumbai Indians made full use of the Powerplay, racing to 59 with Ryan Rickelton leading the charge before falling for a blazing 48 just after the fielding restrictions ended. Naman Dhir could not make much impact, while Rohit Sharma's scratchy 25 off 26 added pressure on the middle order. However, Tilak Varma took complete control of the chase and looked like he was batting on a different surface altogether. Rutherford never really found his rhythm but played a vital supporting hand in a crucial 61-run stand with Varma to keep MI in the hunt. Varma continued to find the boundaries at will, bringing up a quickfire fifty, while Will Jacks chipped in with a fiery 25* off 10 to swing the momentum further. With 15 needed off the final over, Varma fittingly finished things off in style, remaining unbeaten on a sensational 75 off just 33 balls and sealing the chase with one ball to spare.
MI stun PBKS in a thriller - Phew! A proper nail-biter, but Mumbai Indians have come out on top, with Tilak Varma emerging as the hero for the Men in Blue. This is the third time this season that MI have successfully chased down a 200-plus total. They may already be out of playoff contention, but they have now handed Punjab Kings their fifth defeat in a row, dealing a blow to their playoff hopes as well and keeping the points table race wide open.

Another low full toss that Varma isn't able to put away. Just around off, Varma gets on one knee and looks to tuck it around the corner on the leg side but miscues it towards deep mid-wicket for a run.

A golden dot ball for Punjab and it almost ends up being a run out as well. Low full toss, outside off, Varma nails it straight to cover and sets off for the single. STRATEGIC BREAK! In the last few overs, Punjab Kings have managed to push the asking rate over 13. Sherfane Rutherford is struggling a bit, but Tilak Varma is playing freely at the other end. However, if Mumbai Indians want to chase this total down, the batters need to fire from both ends, and they can take risks with Will Jacks still waiting to come out. Yuzvendra Chahal has been superb for Punjab, and he still has one over left, which could decide which way this game goes. For now, it will be Arshdeep Singh to bowl after the break.

STRATEGIC BREAK! It has been a solid start for Mumbai Indians but Punjab Kings have managed to level the playing field a bit with a couple of wickets. 120 needed off 67 balls and this is setting up to be a closely-fought contest. PBKS lost their way with the bat in the middle overs and they will be hoping that they too manage to pick up regular wickets in this phase. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is still out there and is just about starting to fire but MI will expect a big knock from him now. Let's see how the next few overs pan out. Also, Tilak Varma walks out to bat now.
