Did Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis Break a World Record at Sydney International? Not Quite
At the Sydney International on Thursday, Sania Mirza and Martina won their 29th consecutive match. The record for most consecutive wins is held by the dynamic duo of Jana Novotna and Helena Sukova, who won a whopping 44 matches in-a-row in 1990.

Did they break the record? Or didn't they? That is the question on the lips of all tennis fans following the juggernaut called Sania Mirza-Martina Hingis.
On Wednesday, local media, social networking sites were buzzing with news of 'SanTina' -- as the women's doubles duo of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis are being called now -- equalling the record of most consecutive wins of 28 set by Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva in 1994. But is that really the record?
On Thursday, the Indo-Swiss pair recorded their 29th straight win to surpass Gigi and Natasha but sadly for Sania-Hingis fans, that is not a record.
The record for most consecutive wins is held by the dynamic duo of Jana Novotna and Helena Sukova, who won a whopping 44 matches in-a-row in 1990.
So, just to clear the air, Sania and Hingis are quite a fair bit away from the actual record.
However, they are still in the running and that's what really matters.
With titles at the International Sydney and the Australian Open, 'SanTina' could move their streak up to 36 straight wins, and would likely need at least another two titles to come close to passing the elusive record.
