All is not well with Vijay Singh. The 49-year-old Fijian golfer of Indian origin who has the distinction of having won more events in his forties than any other golfer, is now under investigation for possible use of a banned substance.
Singh, also known as The Big Fijian, may have made use of deer antler spray. The claim has been made by American Sports Magazine - Sports Illustrated. The spray, the magazine says, contains IGF-1 which aids in muscle growth and is a natural anabolic hormone. The magazine further says that Singh paid $9000 for the product which has otherwise been banned by major pro sports including PGA Tour and National Football League.
While Singh has been quoted as saying he uses the product for 'a couple of hours, daily,' officials are now looking into the matter. The golfer is scheduled to play in the Phoenix Open, starting this week.
Singh is a renowned name in the golfing circuit and was Number 1 in the Official Golf Rankings for 8 months between 2004 and 2005. The latest development though may come become a 'bogey' in what has otherwise been clean strokes to fame and sporting excellence.
