Nicholas Frederick Kelly Profile

Born in Australia but making his mark across the Tasman Sea, Nicholas Frederick Kelly has become a familiar face in New Zealand domestic cricket. He started his professional journey in late 2015 when he made his first class debut in the Plunket Shield. A few months later in early 2016, he stepped up to make his List A debut in the Ford Trophy. Known as a capable batter, he spent his early years developing his skills and learning the demands of the game.

His steady progress caught the attention of different domestic teams over the years. In 2018, he earned a contract to play for Northern Districts where he continued to build his experience. Seeking new opportunities to showcase his talent, he later moved to Otago after being offered a contract ahead of the 2020 domestic season. These moves helped him grow as a player and gave him the chance to face different bowling attacks across the country. He eventually found his way to Wellington where he further solidified his reputation.

After a decade of grinding through the domestic circuit, his biggest moment finally arrived in 2025. On 29 March 2025, Kelly proudly made his international debut for New Zealand in an ODI match against Pakistan. Stepping onto the field for the national side was a massive reward for his years of hard work. Although he scored 15 runs in his first outing, getting a taste of international cricket was a huge milestone in his long and patient career. The following year, he also made his T20I debut against South Africa.

Having experienced the highest level of the game, he brings a wealth of knowledge and calm leadership to his domestic team. He remains focused on scoring heavy runs in domestic matches and staying ready for any future call ups to the national squad. With his solid technique and years of experience, he serves as a great role model for younger players coming through the New Zealand system.
