The Gabba, Brisbane

Situated in the Brisbane suburb of Woolloongabba, the Brisbane Cricket Ground is famously called “The Gabba”. It is the home ground of the Queensland state cricket team. Established in 1895, it witnessed the first Test match only 36 years later. It was played between Australia and South Africa in 1931 and the first ODI was played in the year of the second ICC Cricket World Cup, between England and West Indies in1979. Perhaps the best memory of this ground would be the deciding run-out in a tied Test between Australia and West Indies in 1960-61. The Gabba has also been Aussie spin wizard Shane Warne's favourite as it has often helped his legspin with that extra bounce. The ground has undergone a huge redevelopment process during the last decade with modern, concrete stands and they also offer premium facilities to the players and the public. Besides cricket, this ground has been party to Australian Rules football (Brisbane Lions), rugby union, athletics, baseball, cycling, greyhound racing, pony racing, rugby league, and soccer.
