After opting to bat, England rode on a century by Jonny Bairstow to post 337 for seven on a batsmen-friendly wicket in Birmingham.
Besides Jonny Bairstow's 111, Jason Roy and Ben Stokes contributed with 66 and 79 runs respectively.
For India, Mohammed Shami claimed his first five-wicket haul in ODI cricket. He had claimed a World Cup hat-trick in his previous match.
