Afghanistan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi made history during the T20 World Cup semifinal match against South Africa in Trinidad.

With 17 scalps to his name, Farooqi now has the most wickets in a single edition of ICC T20 World Cups.

The 23-year-old dismissed Quinton de Kock to achieve the feat. He ended match with figures of 1/11.

The previous best tally of wickets in a single edition was 16, taken by Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga in the 2021 edition.

Hasaranga is also joint third on the list, having claimed 15 wickets during the last edition in 2022.

India's Arshdeep Singh (2024) and Sri Lanka Ajantha Mendis (2012) have also claimed 15 wickets in a single edition.

Meanwhile, with Afghanistan's campaign coming to an end, Arshdeep Singh will have the chance to surpass Farooqi.
