The 36-year-old's place in team was under the scrutiny in the lead up to the final, following a string of low scores in the tournament.

However, he rose to the occasion with a match-winning half-century against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2023 final.

Virat Kohli's gritty 59-ball 76 gave India a fighting total of 176, a score that Rohit Sharma's men successfully defended.

After winning his first T20 World Cup title, Kohli has now completed a unique quadruple of ICC trophies in his career.

Kohli's accomplishment is matched by only Yuvraj Singh in the world, though in a slightly different manner.

Yuvraj had won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2002, but India were joint-winners with Sri Lanka.
