Let's look at the key rules from a broader perspective.

1. A franchise can retain a maximum of 6 players, via Retention or Right to Match (RTM). If a franchise retains one player, they can RTM five in the mega auction.

2. At least one uncapped player must be retained if a franchise opts to retain the full quota of 6 players. Maximum 2 uncapped players can be retained.

3. The auction purse for the franchises will be Rs 120 crore. Including incremental performance pay and match fees, it will be Rs 146 cr.

4. Each playing member (including Impact Player) will get a match fee of Rs 7.5 lakh per match. If a player plays 14 games, that totals to over Rs 1 crore!

5. If an Overseas player does not register for the Mega Auction, they will be barred from entering the following year's mini-auction.

6. If a player pulls out before the start of an IPL despite being picked, they will be banned from the next two IPLs and auctions.

7. Indian players who've not played in the starting XI of an international match for the last 5 calendar years, can be retained as 'uncapped' (e.g., MS Dhoni!)
