1. CK Nayudu

Former India skipper CK Nayudu began his Indian captaincy tenure with a defeat by 158 runs against England in 1932.

2. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi 

The great Mansoor Ali Khan's Test captaincy journey also started with a loss  an innings and 30 runs against West Indies in 1962.

3. Dilip Vengsarkar 

Brilliant batter Vengsarkar faced a defeat by 5 wickets against West Indies on his Test captaincy debut for India in 1987.

4. Virat Kohli 

Kohli took reign of India Test captaincy from MS Dhoni during the series against Australia in 2014. However, he lost the first match by 48 runs.

5. Jasprit Bumrah 

Bumrah was made captain for the Birmingham Test against England in 2022 in Rohit Sharma's absence. He lost the match by 7 wickets.
