Portoroz, Slovenia:

The United States of America face Slovenia in a Fed Cup World Group first round tie in Portoroz this weekend. The draw for the five matches was made yesterday and Tina Pisnik is due to face Lisa Raymond in day one's first singles match before Venus Williams takes on Katarina Srebotnik. Having been beaten 4-1 by France in the 2003 Fed Cup final, the USA will look to make a positive start to their 2004 campaign when they face Slovenia this weekend. Zina Garrison takes her bow as USA captain and leads a strong team into this World Group first round tie. Venus Williams and Lisa Raymond will contest the four singles ties as the US face Slovenia for the first time in the Fed Cup, while Martina Navratilova will join Raymond for the doubles on Sunday afternoon. Friday's draw in Portoroz paired Raymond with home favourite Tina Pisnik for today's first singles match and Venus Williams with Katarina Srebotnik for the second. (AP)
