Australia's Lleyton Hewitt advanced to the second round of the US open on Tuesday. He beat American Amer Delic 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.

Australia's Lleyton Hewitt advanced to the second round of the US open on Tuesday.

He beat American Amer Delic 6-2, 6-4, 6-2. Hewitt, who was champion here in 2001, beat his unseeded opponent in a little over an hour and a half.

Among the men Serbia's Novak Djokovic and Ivan Ljubicic were the ones to make it to round 2.

Among the women, Martina Hingis beat France's Mathilde Johansson 6-0, 6-3. Hingis won her only US Open title a decade ago

But the upset of the day came in the form of Daniela Hantuchova. The 9th seed Slovakian was outplayed by unseeded Ukrainian Julia Vakulenko 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
