New York:

Russia's Elena Dementieva will clash with compatriot Svetlana Kuznetsova in all Russian-affair in the US Open women's finals today. While Dementieva defeated Jennifer Capriati, Kuznetsova knocked out former champion Lindsay Davenport 1-6, 6-2, 6-4. Dementieva produced eight double faults and won just 39 per cent of her second-serve points but she held on for a 6-0, 2-6, 7-6 (7/5) victory over Capriati. Dementieva pummelled Capriati on the baseline, hammering 44 winners to Capriati's 15 in a match which lasted over two hours at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The win gave Dementieva her first career win over Capriati in four matches. Setback for Davenport Meanwhile, Kuznetsova became the first Russian woman to reach the US Open final when she defeated Davenport. Davenport dominated the opening set and was up 1-0 in the second when she began to be bothered by a strained left hip. She underwent massage therapy after the second set but was unable to regain her fluidness. Davenport clearly was the crowd favourite at Arthur Ashe stadium. The 1998 Open champion drew a big ovation as she limped to the locker room. Yesterday's loss snapped her 22-match winning streak and prevented her from rising to No 1 in the WTA Tour rankings.
