Tennis Channel Open: Goldstein enters quarters
Paul Goldstein beat Vince Spadea 6-2, 6-1 on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Tennis Channel Open.

Paul Goldstein beat Vince Spadea 6-2, 6-1 on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Tennis Channel Open. Goldstein, who upset fourth-seeded Robby Ginepri earlier in the week, beat Spadea for the first time in four career matches. "I've had some quality wins over the last six to eight months but haven't followed them up,'' Goldstein said. "I'm really pleased with being able to follow up a win against a guy like Robby, who is ranked (19th) in the world, with an effort like today against a guy who has been 18th in the world,'' he added. Earlier, second seed Nicolas Kiefer when he pulled out of his match against Kenneth Carlsen. Kiefer withdrew before the match because of sinusitis. The only seeds remaining in the Las Vegas tournament are top seed Lleyton Hewitt, No. 3 Tommy Robredo and No. 5 James Blake. Goldstein next plays Xavier Malisse of Belgium, who defeated Peter Luczak of Australia 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
