Zurich:

Maria Sharapova beat Daniela Hantuchova 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in the final of the Zurich Open on Sunday to secure her fourth title of 2006. The Russian was at her majestic best in the first set, but let the hard-working Hantuchova back into the match in the second, which the Slovakian dug deep to win. Number two seed Sharapova upped her game in the deciding set though and added the Zurich crown to titles that she picked up at this year's US Open, Indian Wells and San Diego events. Sharapova, a beaten finalist at the 2004 Zurich Open final, became the first Russian to claim the title. And with this win she has increased her chances of finishing the year as the world number one.
