Serena Williams has won the China Open after defeating US Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the final.

Beijing:

Serena Williams got back to winning ways with victory over US Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova in the final of the China Open in Beijing. The American top seed won 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 to claim her first title since Miami in March. It was a tight match, with Williams smashing her racket in the first set and saving a match point in the second. As the top seed struggled to stem the flow of unforced errors in the second set, the US Open champion earned a match point, but missed her chance as Williams put in an unreturnable serve. The American broke to go up 6-5 and served out to love to take the set. Kuznetsova looked deflated early in the third set, while Williams grew more confident and raced into a 4-0 lead. Although the Russian fought back to 5-4, Williams took the title with two big serves. (AP)
