Sania-Mattek advance in Carson

Sania Mirza and Bethanie Mattek breezed into the second round of $600,000 East West Bank Classic doubles.

Sania Mirza and her American partner Bethanie Mattek breezed into the second round of $600,000 East West Bank Classic doubles, registering a convincing straight set victory over American-Russian pair Vania King and Alla Kudryavtseva here at Carson.

Sania-Mattek, seeded second, defeated King-Kudryavtseva 6-3, 6-4 at the hard court event.

The Indo-American pair next meet Russians Elena Versina and Vera Zvonareva, who beat American wild card pair Tracy Lin and Riza Zalameda 6-4, 6-4 in the first round.

In the singles, Sania faces Chinese Meng Yuan in her second round after sweeping aside Czech qualifier Eva Hrdinova in straight sets. Yuan beat Ukrainian Kateryna Bondarenko 2-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 in the opening round.
