In the Singles event, Australian Lleyton Hewitt and Great Britain's Andy Murray were both upset in the very first first round.

In the Singles event, Australian Lleyton Hewitt and Great Britain's Andy Murray were both upset in the very first first round.

Spanish qualifier Oscar Hernandez eliminated former world number one Lleyton Hewitt in three sets - 3-6, 7-6 , 6-1, in what was a rain-delayed game.

This was Hewitt's first match in nearly two months, following a back injury.

In the other big upset of the day, Gilles Simon of France upset another player on his return from a back injury - 10th-seed Andy Murray. Simon 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.
