Eleventh seed Roger Federer of Switzerland beat Germany's Rainer Schuettler to enter the fourth round of the Australian Open.

Eleventh seed Roger Federer of Switzerland beat Germany's Rainer Schuettler to enter the fourth round of the Australian Open. Federer won 7-6 (8/6) 7-6 (7/5) 6-4 in two hours and 17 minutes. Federer will now play either German seventh-seed Tommy Haas or American veteran Todd Martin in the round of 16. Federer broke Schuettler's serve three times to record his third straight success over the German. Schuettler came back from two sets down to beat 17th seed Carlos Moya of Spain in the previous round.
