Prague Open: Bartoli, Poutchkova advance

Top-seeded Marion Bartoli advanced to the second round of the Prague Open on Tuesday by beating wild card Kristyna Pliskova of the Czech Republic 6-1, 6-2.

Top-seeded Marion Bartoli advanced to the second round of the Prague Open on Tuesday by beating wild card Kristyna Pliskova of the Czech Republic 6-1, 6-2.

The 24th-ranked Frenchwoman has recovered from an abdominal injury that forced her to retire in the quarterfinals of the Estoril Open in Portugal last week. She will next face Viktoriya Kutuzova of Ukraine, who defeated Alberta Brianti of Italy 7-5, 6-3.

Second-seeded Gisela Dulko of Argentina, who won her first WTA Tour title in Budapest, Hungary, last month and reached quarterfinals in the Estoril Open, lost to Slovak qualifier Dominika Cibulkova 6-3, 7-6 (5).

The 18-year-old Cibulkova, currently No. 139, will play next qualifier Andrea Hlavackova of the Czech Republic, who rallied to beat Jill Craybas of the United States 1-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Also, unseeded Yvonne Meusburger of Austria came from a set down to eliminate fourth-seeded Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, third-seeded Olga Poutchkova of Russia defeated Czech wild card Karolina Pliskova 7-6 (2), 7-5, and sixth-seeded Akiko Morigami of Japan beat Iveta Benesova 6-3, 6-2.

Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, who had reached her first career final at the Estoril Open, advanced by beating Martina Sucha of Slovakia 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
