Paes through, Bhupathi crashes out

Leander Paes cruised into the second round of the Australian Open doubles event. Mahesh Bhupathi, however, crashed out in the first round.

Leander Paes today cruised into the second round of the Australian Open doubles event being played in Melbourne. In sharp contrast, compatriot Mahesh Bhupathi crashed out in the first round. While Paes and Czech partner David Rikl defeated Paul Hanley and Andrew Kratzmann of Australia 6-4, 6-3, Bhupathi and Joshua Eagle of Australia lost 4-6, 6-4, 4-6 against Tomas Cibulec and David Skoch of the Czech Republic.
