This is Paes' eight Grand Slam title and his second at the US Open. He is also in the final of the men's doubles.

New York:

Leander Paes won the eighth Grand Slam title of his career, when he and his Zimbabwean partner Carla Black lifted the mixed doubles title at the US Open, on Thursday night.

They beat Liezel Huber of the US and Jamie Murray of Great Britain in straight sets, winning 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Paes, incidentally, would be aiming for a double Grand Slam win, since he is also in the men's doubles final, with Czech partner Lukas Dlouhy.

For 29-year-old Black, this is her first Grand Slam. She is currently ranked No. 1 in the world. Her previous best at the US Open was when she finished runners up in the 2000 US Open.

She has won the Wimbledon doubles event thrice and the Australian Open once.

The Indian, with a world doubles ranking of 16, had earlier won the US Open in 2006, partnering Martin Damm in the men's doubles event.
