Sania Mirza and doubles partner, Bethany Mattek of US were beaten by China's Zi Yan and Jie Zheng in the semi finals on Saturday.

Sania Mirza and her American partner Bethanie Mattek's fine run in the $2.1 million Pacific Life Open came to an end as they lost to the Chinese pair of Zi Yan and Jie Zheng in the doubles semi-finals here.

The seven-seeded Indo-American duo lost to the third seeded Chinese in a closely fought match 6-7(4) 7-5 10-5 Friday.

In a closely contested match, Sania and Mattek drew first blood as they took the 1st set 7-6.

However, Yan and Zheng won the 2nd set after getting a critical break in the 11th game of the set.

The third seed then went on to win the tie break 10-5 to book their place in the final. They will now play the Russian pair of Dinara Safina & Elena Vesnina for the title.

Earlier, Sania and Mattek overcame Taipei duo of Yung-Jan Chan and Chia-Jung Chuang 7-5, 4-6, 11-9 to advance to the semifinals.
