Indian Wells, California:

Lindsay Davenport won her opening match in the Pacific Life Open on Friday afternoon. "It's fantastic when you're done and are watching everyone else in the locker room sweat it out, but it's very tough when rain interrupts play,'' Davenport said. The second-seed, who beat Ashley Harkleroad 6-0, 6-0, won 62 of the 95 points played in her 53-minute match against Harkleroad. Other matches Meanwhile, number seven seed Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany and number 27 Marta Domachowska of Poland also advanced to the third round. But Sybille Bammer of Austria upset number 15 seed Jelena Jankovic of Serbia-Montenegro 7-5, 6-4. Meng Yuan of China was a 7-6 (5), 6-2 winner over number 23 seed Catalina Castano of Colombia. Rain showers forced a delay in the men's first-round and women's second-round matches. In early men's first-round matches, Florian Mayer beat former tournament champion Mark Philippoussis of Australia 6-4, 6-3. (AP)
