London:

Forty-seven-year-old Martina Navratilova swept aside Catalina Castano 6-0 6-1 in just 46 minutes in the first round of the women's singles at Wimbledon. Navratilova, making her first return to singles since 1994, raced 5-0 ahead and even a rain break could not dent her concentration as she stayed in control. Castano finally held her serve to win the 12th game and had a break point in the next, but could not stop the nine-times champion.
