Rafael Nadal's 74th consecutive win on clay saw the defending champion through to the last eight of the Rome Masters on Thursday.

Rafael Nadal's 74th consecutive win on clay saw the defending champion through to the last eight of the Rome Masters on Thursday.

The 20-year-old Spaniard beat Mikhail Youzhny 6-2, 6-2.

Second-seeded Nadal will meet Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals after the Serbian number five seed put out Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus 6-2, 7-5.

In other matches, twelfth seed Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic beat Argentina's Jose Acasuso 6-1, 6-2.

Nikolay Davydenko of Russia, the number four seed, beat Italian wild card Potito Starace in three sets and Spain's Tommy Robredo, seeded seven, defeated Gilles Simon of France, 6-2, 6-2.
