New York:

There will be no Federer-Nadal final this year at the US Open. Nadal was handed a fourth round exit by fellow Spaniard David Ferrer.

It's without doubt the biggest upset in the men's event even as the second seeded Rafa struggled right through the match with an injury.

That's not to take away from 15th seeded Ferrer who played an inspired match for his second appearance in a grand slam quarterfinal.

But for Nadal it is a reminder of his relatively poor showing at the US Open. His best ever showing here has been a quarterfinal appearance last year.
