Third seeded Carlos Moya of Spain made short work of Teimuraz Gabashvili of Russia 6-4 6-1 in a first round match of the Chennai Open ATP Tennis championship on Tuesday.

The 17th ranked Moya, two-time champion here, was in his usual self getting his powerful first serves, including five aces, and was equally successful in winning points on returns as he disposed of the Russian, ranked 126, in 65 minutes.

The 31-year-old Moya, the oldest player in the top 20, broke Gabashvili in the second and fourth games with his powerful forehand in full flow. Though he was broken back in the sixth game, the former World No.1 wrapped up the set without further trouble.

The second set saw Moya changing gears and racing to a 4-1 lead turning the duel into a vital practice match. He won with a triple break in the first, third and sixth games.
