London: John McEnroe began coaching British tennis youngsters urging them to "put some fire" into their play. McEnroe was at Queen's Club in west London yesterday taking a training session with Britain's leading performance junior squad. It was the first session of an informal and open-ended coaching arrangement with the Lawn Tennis Association. The three-times Wimbledon champion will work alongside performance director David Felgate a€" Tim Henman's former coach a€" when his timetable permits. "I want to get back on court and put some fire into those players' bellies," McEnroe said. An LTA spokesman said McEnroe wouldn't be working with Henman, a four-time Wimbledon semifinalist, or Greg Rusedski, Britain's top two players. "But he is going to be involved with some of the country's most promising junior players," the spokesman said. No British man has won Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936 and no woman since Virginia Wade in 1977. (AP)
