Linz:

Top seed Amelie Mauresmo and fourth seed Vera Zvonareva completed straight sets victories to book their places in the quarterfinals of the Linz Open in Austria on Thursday. Mauresmo overcame a sluggish start to beat Poland's Marta Domachowska 6-4, 6-0, whilst Zvonareva survived a tough battle with Frenchwoman Nathalie Dechy, winning 7-6(7-5), 6-4. Mauresmo looked as if she would be in for a tough time when Domachowska made a strong start to their match, hitting a string of winners that left the top seed shaking her head. But Mauresmo slowly dragged herself back into the game with some percentage tennis. The Frenchwoman secured the vital break of serve in the seventh game before clinching the opening set 6-4. With that, the fight seemed to go out of Domachowska and she capitulated in the second set. Mauresmo also upped the tempo and her lesser-known opponent had little answer to the onslaught. Victory for Mauresmo was wrapped up when Domachowska netted a forehand return, with the top seed winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. (AP)
