Former champion Lleyton Hewitt of Australia progressed to the last 16 of the US Open 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 victory over No. 30 Feliciano Lopez of Spain.

Former champion Lleyton Hewitt of Australia progressed to the last 16 of the US Open 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 victory over No. 30 Feliciano Lopez of Spain on Sunday night. Hewitt, the fourth-seed and 2001 winner at Flushing Meadows, is yet to lose a set in the tournament. The Aussie will next play unseeded Karol Beck of Slovakia on Tuesday. The No. 2 women's seed Amelie Mauresmo moved effortlessly into the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over No. 19 Francesca Schiavone of Italy. The Frenchwoman will now meet sixth seed Elena Dementieva, who rallied for a 1-6 6-4 6-3 victory over fellow Russian Vera Zvonareva. (AP)
