Amelie Mauresmo has booked her place in the fourth round of the women's singles event of the US Open with a comfortable victory over Maria Vento-Kabchi. The number two seed needed just 57 minutes to dispose of the Venezuelan 6-2, 6-0. Amelie Mauresmo and Maria Vento-Kabchi had only met once prior to Friday's clash. Mauresmo broke in the fourth game of the first set and went on to take it 6-2. The second seed found the second set even less testing, speeding her to victory without dropping a game in the decider. Meanwhile, Jennifer Capriati was given a major scare before coming through against the 17-year-old Russian Vera Douchevina. The American eighth seed eventually came through 6-0, 6-7 (4), 6-3. (AP)
