Number three seed Amelie Mauresmo cruised into the third round of the US Open with a 6-0, 6-1 thrashing of 16-year-old Bulgarian Sesil Karatantcheva in Thursday's evening session at Flushing Meadows in New York. Three former champions made it through to the third round earlier on in the day. In the women's draw, number two seed Lindsay Davenport cruised past Pauline Parmentier of France 6-1, 6-1 and seventh seed Justine Henin-Hardenne disposed of Spain's Maria Antonia Sanchez-Lorenzo 6-3, 6-4. While in the men's draw, two-time former champion and number seven seed Andre Agassi out-thought the big serving Croatian Ivo Karlovic over three tie-breaks to win in straight sets. Karlovic hammered down 30 aces and saved 10 of 11 break points against him, but Agassi's experience shone as he took away the match. Agassi has now drawn level with Ivan Lendl with 73 wins at the US Open, with only Jimmy Connors ahead on 98. Agassi will play 32nd seeded Tomas Berdych in the third round. (AP)
