Den Bosch: Mary Pierce won her first grass court title today, two days before the start of Wimbledon, beating Klara Koukalova of the Czech Republic 7-6 (7/6), 6-2 to win the Ordina Open. It was Frenchwoman's first title of the year and her 16th of her career, coming on day when she had two win two matches to win the tournament. After rain suspended semifinal yesterday tied at 2-2 in the first set, Pierce returned to finish off Russian Lina Krasnoroutskaya 6-2, 6-2, and then came back less than three hours later to face Koukalova. Pierce raced to a 5-0 lead against the Czech with a mixture of volleys and deft drop shots. Koukalova, seeking her first WTA title, recovered to send the set to a tiebreak and led 5-1 before Pierce reasserted herself and won when Koukalova double faulted. In the second set, Koukalova double faulted again to give Pierce a break at 2-1, and a series of unforced errors in the seventh game gave the Frenchwoman a second and a 5-2 lead. In the men's draw, top seeded Guillermo Coria of Argentina beat seventh seed Arnaud Clement of France 6-2, 7-5, to set up a semifinal match later today against Croatian Mario Ancic. Ancic beat home favourite Martin Verkerk earlier today, 6-3, 6-3. Fourth seed Tommy Robredo of Spain and Frenchman Michael Llodra, who won their quarterfinals yesterday, play in the second semifinal.
