Sania Mirza has advanced to the second round of the $1,70,000 Japan Open championship. She defeated Vilmarie Castellvi of Puerto Rico 6-1, 6-3. The 18-year-old will next take on Aiko Nakamura of Japan, who defeated Mashona Washinton of USA in her first round match. However, Sania faces a tougher challenge if she advances to the quarterfinals, where she is likely to play top seed Vera Zvonareva, currently ranked 22nd. Sania, the latest cover girl of the Time magazine, is seeded eighth in the tournament, and has retained her 37th place in singles. (With PTI inputs)
