Indians advance in mixed doubles

Leander Paes advanced into the third round of the men's doubles at the Australian Open with partner David Rikl of Czech Republic, defeating Moroccans Hicam Araz

Leander Paes has had a successful outing so far at the Australian Open, winning both his doubles and mixed doubles matches at Melbourne today. Paes advanced into the third round of the men's doubles with partner David Rikl of Czech Republic, defeating Moroccans Hicham Arazi and Younes El Aynaoui 7-6 (7/4) 6-1. Bhupathi was not as lucky in the doubles competition, bowing out in the first round along with partner Joshua Eagle of Australia. In the mixed doubles, both Paes and former partner Mahesh Bhupathi cruised into the second round. Paes and former tennis great Martina Navratilova won against Australians Scott Draper and Lisa McShea 6-3, 7-5. Bhupathi and Uzbek partner Iyoda Tulyaganova overcame American Brian McPhie and Japanese Rika Fujiwara 6-2, 6-2. (PTI)
