Lleyton Hewitt gave himself the perfect preparation for next week's Australian Open with victory over Ivo Minar in the final of the Sydney International. The defending champion brushed aside the Czech qualifier 7-5 6-0. In the ladies' event, Alicia Molik was made to work hard before triumphing over compatriot Samantha Stosur in the women's final. The sixth-seed beat the 59th-ranked Stosur 6-7 (5/7) 6-4 7-5 to claim her fifth career WTA title. Molik became the first Australian woman to win the Sydney title since Wendy Turnbull's success in 1980. It was the first all-Australian women's final at the event since 1978 when Dianne Balestrat downed Turnbull.
