Frenchman Sebastian Grosjean rediscovered something approaching his best form as he defeated home favourite Feliciano Lopez at the Madrid Masters Series on Monday.Grosjean, who has endured a difficult 2005, battled to a 7-5 4-6 6-2 victory, and will now face the USA's Robby Ginepri for a place in the third round. Lopez began in confident mood but the Frenchman stepped up a gear at the end of the first set, taking it 7-5. The 24-year-old Lopez came back in the second set, which he won 6-4.Surrendering serveBut the Spaniard fell apart in the fourth game of the final set, surrendering his serve to trail 3-1 - and Grosjean broke again in the eighth game to secure victory, 7-5 4-6 6-2. The Frenchman, who has had a disappointing season by his standards, now faces 16th-seeded American Robby Ginepri. The partisan home crowd were finally rewarded for their support when Fernando Verdasco defeated Paul-Henri Mathieu of France 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, before and Alberto Martin rallied past Jiri Novak of the Czech Republic 3-6, 7-6 (1), 6-4. Seven Spaniards remain in the tournament, including top-seeded Rafael Nadal and Juan Carlos Ferrero, who is the only former Madrid champion in the field. Tim Henman, who has been struggling this season, won only his third match since Wimbledon, beating the USA's Taylor Dent in straight sets. (AP)
