Seventh seed Joshua Goodall of Britain defeated fellow countryman Richard Irwin 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) to win the ITF Men's Satellite Tennis Tournament today.

Indore: Seventh seed Joshua Goodall of Britain defeated fellow countryman Richard Irwin 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) to win the ITF Men's Satellite Tennis Tournament today. Beginning on a confident note from the word go, the 816th ranked player dominated the first set to clinch it 6-3. Irwin, ranked 1054, fought back well in the second set and forced it into the tie-breaker. The match, which lasted for one hour and 31 minutes, was finally decided in favour of Goodall who played the crucial points well in the tie-breaker to win it 7-3. Besides getting the winners' trophy, Goodall also got a purse of $812.50, while runner-up Irwin had to be content with $562. Goodall said after the match that he would now concentrate on the remaining legs of the tournament, including the Masters, which are scheduled to be held in Delhi. Disappointed over losing the match, Irwin said that he played well but the tie breaker turned the tide against him. The prizes were handed over to the winner and runner-up by Madhya Pradesh Director of Sports Vijay Yadav. (PTI)
