Paris:

Roger Federer will face a qualifier in the first round of the French Open after Arnaud Clement withdrew because of a left thigh injury. Clement, a 2001 Australian Open finalist was once ranked in the top 10 but is now 56th. The Frenchman tore the muscle three weeks ago and hasn't healed enough to play, tournament doctor Bernard Montalvan said. Federer will now play Argentina's Diego Hartfield, who's ranked 156th and had to go through qualifying to make the field. Hartfield will be making his main-draw debut at a Grand Slam tournament.
