Roger Federer beat Alberto Martin 6-0, 6-1 in a second-round match at the Monte Carlo Masters on Wednesday. The seven-time Grand Slam champion has never been beyond the quarterfinals at Monte Carlo. He is now preparing for next month's French Open, the only major he hasn't won. "I've had some fast games, but that one has to be in the top three," Federer said, after completing the win in 46 minutes. "I warmed up several times, waiting to go on court. Once I started, I found myself 6-0 up in 20 minutes. It was incredible." Federer converted five of six break point chances, offered none on his serve and outscored Martin 52-18 in points. He next meets Benjamin Balleret of Monaco, ranked 351st in the world. Other games Among other games, David Nalbandian also beat Andreas Seppi of Italy 7-5, 7-5 and Ivan Ljubicic defeated Florent Serra of France 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. "I know I can play good on clay and can win a tournament," Nalbandian said. "I just need to keep going and get more confidence on clay." Tenth-seeded Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic lost and No. 13 Sebastien Grosjean of France abandoned his match against Balleret because of back pains. Deciding game Guillermo Coria saved four match points and wasted six in a 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4 win against Paul-Henri Mathieu of France. The 2004 Monte Carlo champion and 2005 runner-up opened a 5-2 lead in the deciding set. Mathieu saved one match point and then broke back to 5-3. He had to save a further five match points on serve as he held to make it 5-4. On his seventh match point, Coria's forehand winner bounced inside the line. Alessio di Mauro of Italy beat Stepanek 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (4) and Balleret led 4-6, 7-5, 3-2 when Grosjean abandoned. (AP)
